WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE TO PARTICIPATE?

The minimum age for driving one of our cars is 21 years old. If you are younger than 21, you will need a parent or other financially responsible party to sign the driver contract with you

IS PREVIOUS RACING EXPERIENCE REQUIRED?

FOR HPDE- No, we will confirm with the event organizer what the appropriate run group will be for you based on your driving experience, previous experience with that organizer if any, and the advice of your Coach or other trusted sources.

FOR WRL/SCCA/PCA/NASA WHEEL-TO-WHEEL RACING- The short answer is Yes, however, WRL will allow drivers who are advanced drivers in HPDE groups and who have gone through a Performance Driving School to race in WRL events based on individual approval. For SCCA/PCA/NASA Wheel-to-wheel Sprint and Endurance races, you will be required to have a Pro or Competition license in which each group and be in good standing with said group.

WHAT TYPE OF CLOTHING IS REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN AN HPDE EVENT?

These are Racecars, with full fire suppression systems on board. Your attire should reflect taking the sport seriously and protecting yourself against possible injury, burns, and/or death. You must wear a full-faced helmet with the appropriate fire ratings and impact ratings that are approved by the organizer and by W2W Racing, along with a fire-rated balaclava, fire-rated pants, shoes, gloves, and shirt or a full fire rated racing suit. We will not allow shorts and t-shirts to be worn, nor will we allow tennis shoes or non-racing shoes to be worn while driving our cars.

WHAT TYPE OF CLOTHING IS REQUIRED TO RACE IN WRL OR SCCA/PCA/NASA SPRINT RACE?

Please refer to the appropriate organizers’ rule set for the required safety gear, as you will be required to take all of your gear to tech to be inspected for date code compliance, safety compliance, and appropriate fire ratings. You will be issued a sticker for your helmet that states that your gear is approved for that event. Most organizers will issue a sticker that is good for a full season so that you only have to take your helmet to Tech at the next event to show them your annual sticker.

IS FOOD AND DRINK PROVIDED?

W2W Racing prides ourselves on meeting the needs of our drivers both in the racecar and in the paddock. We will provide plenty of water, snacks, and endurance related drinks during the event. Depending on the event location, we will also do our best to provide breakfast and lunch during the event. You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own drinks and food, as each person has different dietary and supplemental needs. If you have specific dietary needs or restrictions, please let us know prior to the event.

WILL I GET A VIDEO OF MY TIME IN THE CAR?

We have in-car video capture via the AIM Smartycam GP system, which uses up to a 128GB SD Card to record up to 8 hours of video on. We supply the SD cards to run in the cameras and we will upload your videos to Dropbox in the days following the event and will be happy to share those videos. The content and Cards are the property of W2W Racing and may be used in penalty protests, accident investigations, Coaching, etc.  Our Coaches are all well versed in our data capture systems and can help you identify areas of improvement.

PLEASE EXPLAIN THE COACHING AND INSTRUCTION PROVIDED?

W2W employs Professional Racecar Drivers to assist you in maximizing your experience on and off the track with us. Our Coaches will be available to you while you are renting a racecar from us, and we encourage you to pick their brains while you are racing with us. Our Coaches will be assisting you with racecraft, data analysis, and tips/advice aimed at helping you become a faster, safer racer. If you choose to bring your own Coach, you are welcome to do so, but you assume full financial responsibility for any damage that Coach or Pro Driver might inflict on our Racecars, whether intentional or accidental.

CAN I BUY A FULL SEASON OF WRL AT A TIME?

Absolutely! We have Season packages of 3, 5, or 10 Races available for those who want to secure a seat for multiple events prior to the upcoming Season. Each sanctioning body releases its upcoming schedules at different times, but most do not release their schedules until the November time frame for the following year. If you want to secure a seat at multiple events, please email Mark@W2W.Racing to discuss package options and discounts.

ARE GIFT CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE?

You bet! Have a Spouse or family member that you want to surprise with the gift of Racing? We can accommodate that! Just reach out to Mark@W2W.Racing for more information on how to secure a gift certificate that can be used at a future event!

WHAT IF THE CAR HAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE?

Our maintenance protocols are some of the toughest in the Industry, but failures on track can still happen. If a mechanical failure happens on track, our team of race mechanics will assess the damage, and investigate the cause. If it is deemed to have been our fault, then we will attempt to repair the car and get you back on track asap.  If it is determined by the data or visual inspection that you were abusing the car, dropping wheels off of the track surface, running over turtles and curbing that is not intended to be run over, holding the car at redline for excessive periods of time without shifting, etc. then you will be 100%  responsible for the damage caused to the car. You will be invoiced within 30 days of the damage and that invoice is due in full immediately.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE STAFF DECIDES THAT I AM NOT DRIVING SAFELY?

W2W Racing reserves the right to pull you off of the track and not allow you back into the car, as well as the right to ask you to leave the track. No refund will be issued. Race Officials and Security reserve the right to do the same. If you are ignoring flags, passing under yellow, passing under full-course cautions, passing under red flags, etc. excessively, then you are now aware of what is going on around you and you are driving in an unsafe manner. The safety of your fellow drivers, the Race track personnel, the Emergency Rescue workers, and our crew is of utmost importance. It is your responsibility to know where EVERY flag station is on the track and SEE every flag, adhere to it appropriately, and BE SAFE. Do NOT drink alcohol during a race event. Do NOT take drugs that would impair your ability to safely operate a racecar. PAY ATTENTION and BE SAFE at all times on and off the track!

CAN MY KIDS AND FAMILY COME WATCH?

Of course! We encourage you to bring your friends, family, and children to the track. Many tracks offer multiple viewing areas, stands, etc. that they can safely watch from. If they want to come into the paddock, or into the Pit areas, they will need the appropriate wristbands and will have to sign a waiver from the track. W2W Racing will also have waiver forms that they will need to sign if they intend to be in our pit area, garage area, or around our cars and equipment.  Safety first! Each event organizer and host track will have published policies regarding guests, their attire, and their allowed actions, please adhere to those policies and ask your guests to do the same.

HOW DO WE TAG W2W RACING ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Easy! @W2WRacing and #W2WRacing

“HONEY, I WRECKED THE CAR…..NOW WHAT?’

It should already be well understood about the danger and risks of driving on a track. In a sea of indemnity forms and “legal-ese” style sentences, it can be sometimes forgotten that driving a car (in fact at any time, not just on a racing circuit) carries both financial and personal risk!

What can be a bit confusing from time to time, is: what happens if the worst happens? At W2W Racing we do our best to make sure nothing bad happens. We want our clients safe, happy, and wanting to come back again and again. We always give a safety briefing to each and every one of our clients. This makes sure they understand the rules and regulations of the race days and gives you an idea of what to expect.

We also ensure everybody wears a helmet on track. There is no excuse for not wearing a helmet. If the worst happens, we want to make sure everything has been done to keep you safe.

In reality, there is no such thing as a dangerous track, only dangerous drivers. Any corner, no matter how sharp, off-camber, or low grip, can be taken at an appropriate speed. Getting to know the appropriate speed takes two things: knowledge; and a bit of patience and humility while learning (i.e. take it easy for a while - driving well below your maximum).

START OFF BY ASKING YOURSELF - “WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF I TOOK MY OWN CAR ON TRACK?” For the most part, normal car road insurance does not cover accidents while on a race track. This means, that any damage you do to the car, you would have to pay to repair. Destroy the whole car? Then you’re minus a car, my friend! Of course, track day insurance can cover for accidents like this when participating in HPDE events, and these sorts of insurances are still available on our cars.

SO WHAT HAPPENS IN AN W2W RACING CAR? In short: you pay for any damage that you have done to the car, just like you would if it were your own.

REPLACING A CAR ISN’T JUST THE PURCHASE PRICE! Something to note is that a real-world “actual" replacement value isn’t just the purchase price of the car. So while you may be able to purchase a car for one amount, you would also need to add on top items such as:

  • Import costs

  • Extra track parts, like upgraded brakes, pads, tires, cages, etc.

  • Registration costs

  • Running-in costs

  • Certification costs

  • Re-Wrapping the Cars

  • Time for sourcing / visiting cars

  • Transportation of the car

  • And so on…

So, in summary, with the exception of HPDE events and a few limited Time Trial events where we supply track insurance to cover the bulk of the replacement cost of the car and you pay the 10% deductible, YOU are responsible for 100% of the damage caused, regardless of fault, when you are racing wheel to wheel in a Sprint or Endurance race. There is no crash insurance for Wheel to Wheel racing, prepare accordingly.

Bottom line- be safe, be predictable, avoid contact whenever possible, and have fun! If you wreck or damage our car, be prepared to pay for those damages.

WILL YOU BE LIVESTREAMING MY STINT WHILE I AM DRIVING?

NO. We will be live streaming data back to the pits to monitor the car’s performance and health, as well as your performance and health. We utilize Podium Connect systems in the cars and we stream data over a 4G LTE network to the Podium. Live, cloud-based system. We do not stream video and we would encourage you to refrain from streaming on Facebook or other media outlets, focus on your driving and skill improvement, not on what people think of you.

We may ask you to wear a heart rate monitor during your stints so that we can monitor your heart rate while in racing scenarios. This data will be recorded as a data channel along with all of the other data from the car’s telemetry systems.

Some sanctioning bodies do not allow the streaming of video or data from inside the car, so please check with the rule set for the sanctioning body that you will be racing in for their rules on streaming video and data from inside the car.

HOW MUCH SEAT TIME DO I GET IN AN ENDURANCE RACE?

We rent our cars on a "per seat" basis, with a 4 seat minimum per race weekend for endurance racing. A typical endurance race weekend with WRL for example, is either an 8+8 format, or a 9+7 format, with the occasional 14-hour or 24-hour race on the schedule for good measure. In an 8+8 or 9+7 format, each driver on a 4 person team will get roughly 4 hours of seat time for the weekend. If a driver is fatigued, ill, hungover, etc. then his/her teammates can pick up the slack, or choose to put one of our Pros in the car, we leave the seat time-division amongst the paying drivers solely up to the paying drivers.

HOW MUCH SEAT TIME DO I GET IN AN HPDE WEEKEND?

Each HPDE organizer has different session lengths and quantity of sessions per weekend, so you will need to check with the organizer to see a sample schedule for their events. Typically, but not always, the organizers will do 4-5 sessions per day, ranging in length from 20-30 minutes each, and some will do a longer session at the end of each day that includes all run groups.

WILL YOUR PRO COACH RIDE WITH ME, OR JUST GO OVER MY DATA AFTER MY SESSION?

We leave that up to you! If you want the Pro Coach to ride with you, we just need advance notice prior to the event so that we can equip the car with a passenger seat and harnesses for the Pro Coach. If you are Solo approved and just want the Pro Coach to review data and video with you between sessions and give you pointers on where you might be able to pick up more time, they are happy to do that too!

WHAT KIND OF TIRES WILL I BE ON?

If you are renting one of our cars for an HPDE and you have never been on slicks before, we will have the car on scrub Hankook RS4's for you until you and our Pro Coach decide that it is time to graduate to slicks. If you have verifiable experience on slicks, then we will have the car on lightly used scrubs and will typically provide a set of scrubs per day of your event. If you want to be on new slicks(stickers) then you will need to purchase them during the registration process on our registration site at www.RaceW2W.com. We charge $2250 per set and they come mounted and balanced and ready to go! We use the Hankook C52 Medium compound racing slicks. This will apply to Wets as well if you are racing in SCCA/NASA/PCA and require a set of Wets in case of rain. We have scrub wets but if you want a brand new set, you can purchase them when you register or trackside with us directly.
